In episode 153 of The Mountain Side Podcast, the host was joined in the studio by Christian Sausser a multi-talented individual who is a social media expert, a professional photographer, and a United States Marine veteran, among other things. Their engaging conversation took listeners on a journey through Christian's life experiences, exploring how he transitioned from growing up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, to serving in the Marines and eventually engaging in a successful media career.
A Childhood in Colorado Ready for Adventures
Christian Sausser grew up in Highlands Ranch, a suburb in Colorado, in a health-conscious family that highly valued an active lifestyle. With his parents, and sister all being physically active and fit, Christian rebelled against this paradigm, instead focusing his youthful energies on skateboarding.
Although his parents nurtured and encouraged a healthy lifestyle, there was an absence of alcohol in their household. Christian shared this facet of his upbringing, mentioning that he had never seen his mother consume alcohol until he was nearly in his twenties. This early experience shaped his perspective in a positive light for life experience.
Enlistment and Experiences in the Marine Corps
After completing high school, Sausser enlisted in the Marine Corps. He mentioned that joining the military was partially motivated by his anticipation that he might not succeed in college given his propensity to party as a teenager.
In deciding which branch of the military to join, Saucier was inspired by the Marine Corps recruiting commercial featuring a marine scaling a rock and slaying a dragon. Despite the differences in the depiction of the Marine Corps in the commercial and his actual experiences, he described his time in the Marines as transformative and enriching.
International Experiences and Observations
During the podcast, Christian shared his international experiences when stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He had the chance to travel to multiple countries, including the Philippines and Korea, offering him eye-opening perspectives on how people live in different corners of the globe.
One of his most memorable experiences was visiting the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. This close encounter with one of the world's most intensely politicized borders made him realize how fortunate he was to grow up in the U.S.
From Compounding Facility to Media Career
After his service in the Marines, Saucier pursued different careers, landing a physically demanding job at a compounding facility, and manufacturing. The hard labor and less-than-optimal working conditions led him to realize that the financial compensation didn't equate to job satisfaction.
His passion for photography and firearms led him to apply for a position at RE Factor Tactical and Ferro Concepts, where he started as a shipping manager. His interest quickly evolved into his role in media and photography, culminating in his current position as Head of Social Media Marketing at Clandestine Media Grop.
In Conclusion: Adaptability is Key
Throughout his life, Christian Sausser has consistently sought out new experiences and opportunities for growth. Despite the challenges and transitions, he has maintained an adaptable approach to life. Whether it was skateboarding in Colorado, serving in the Marines abroad, or navigating various careers, his journey illustrates the power of adaptability and the pursuit of passion.
