  • In th studio of the Mountain Side Podcast, Bobby Marshall recently welcomed a distinguished guest: Scott Miller, a seasoned Jiu-Jitsu instructor and MMA coach, who operates Evergreen Jiu-Jitsu. This episode was nothing short of a deep dive into the life, career, and philosophical insights of a man whose passion for Jiu-Jitsu has paved a compelling journey in mixed martial arts.

Meeting Scott Miller Scott, having spent his life immersed in wrestling since childhood, transitioned into Jiu-Jitsu approximately 18 years ago. His wealth of knowledge and decades of experience in both wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu have not only made him a formidable coach but have also deeply influenced his teaching and training methodologies.

The YouTube Hustle Scott openly shared the dedication he's poured into curating content for his YouTube channel. What started as a side project has grown into an educational platform where students and fellow enthusiasts can learn from his experiences and techniques. Despite the rigorous investments of time and money, his channel stands as a testament to his love for teaching and his drive to give back to the community.

Elevating the Fighter's Experience An interesting segment of the conversation dwelled on the realities of training at high altitudes in places like Evergreen, Colorado, and Mexico City. Scott shed light on the unique advantages this provides, preparing fighters for bouts in environments where oxygen is scarce, hence giving them an edge when competing at sea-level venues.

The Reality of MMA Coaching Scott's transition from being a skilled practitioner to one of the most sought-after coaches came naturally. Coaching eminent fighters like Vince and young rising stars brought its own set of challenges and fulfillment. Throughout the podcast, Scott emphasized the importance of helping athletes understand not just techniques but also how to face adversity, essential in both the octagon and life.

Establishing Evergreen Jiu-Jitsu The journey to founding Evergreen Jujitsu wasn't without its hurdles. Encouraged by his mentor, Nick Ka, Scott strategically transformed a passion project into a flourishing venture. His gym is more than just a place to train; it's a community where students from all walks of life are welcomed, encouraged, and developed into better fighters and individuals.

Jiu-Jitsu as a Lifestyle Jiu-Jitsu, according to Scott, instills discipline and presents a form of empowerment, especially vital for kids and women. The ability to face discomfort and learn resilience are as important as the physical skills developed. In his gym, the culture is one where no issue is too big, and everyone leaves their troubles at the door, ready to learn and grow.

Upcoming Challenges and Opportunities Scott is busy preparing to compete in Michigan this May and to contribute further to the Jiu-Jitsu community through seminars and an instructional release for BJJ Fanatics. Whether coaching at a high level or training school children, Scott Miller proves that juujitsu is more than a sport; it's a lifestyle and a tool for personal transformation.

As the episode wrapped up, listeners were left with a lasting impression of Scott as someone who is not only committed to evolving as a coach and athlete but is also dedicated to shaping the lives of those around him. Through Evergreen Jiu-Jitsu, he continues to provide an elite mix of training that fosters growth, empowerment, and lifelong friendships in the gym and beyond.
