  • Introduction In the latest episode of the Mountainside Podcast, we were thrilled to welcome back UFC middleweight and fan favorite Josh Fremd. Known for his grit and tenacity in the octagon, Josh returned to talk about everything from his recent fight experiences to his love for the mountains and his future plans both inside and outside the octagon. This blog post captures the key moments and discussions from our enlightening conversation.

A Fighter's Journey Josh kicked off the episode by discussing his journey in the fight game. He shared the struggles and sacrifices he’s made to pursue his dream of fighting in the UFC. “I moved here five years ago with nothing to my name,” Josh recalls. He drove across the country, bartending at various places in Denver, working security, and holding numerous odd jobs to sustain himself while training intensively to make it to the UFC.

The Grit of UFC Life Josh’s career took a pivotal turn when he got a last-minute call to fight in the UFC. Despite rigorous preparation and high hopes, his recent fight left him feeling unfulfilled. “I don’t feel like I was in a fight. The only thing that happened is I got brush burn on my shoulder,” he noted somewhat poignantly. However, Josh remains undeterred, fueled by both motivation and a commitment to his craft. “I’m going to turn it around. I’m going to figure it out.”

A Balancing Act While the conversation delved deeply into the intricacies of fight preparation and the mental toughness required, we also discussed the toll that such a demanding career can take on personal life. Josh expressed his regret about missing significant family events due to his fight schedule.

Dual Training and Mountain-High Adventures One of the fascinating aspects of Josh’s lifestyle is how he balances his intense training with his love for the mountains. He stays active outside of the gym, engaging in activities like hiking and snowboarding in the beautiful Colorado landscapes. Just recently, he took up snowboarding at St. Mary's in July, a testament to his high energy and love for adventure.

The UFC Experience For fans new to the UFC or those wondering what happens behind the scenes, Josh gave a vivid description of the UFC’s operational mechanics. From the fight announcements to the meticulous planning and proximity advantages of training in places like Las Vegas, where UFC’s Performance Institute offers state-of-the-art facilities, Josh painted a comprehensive picture of life as a professional fighter.

Concerts and Free Time Outside of his rigorous training schedule, Josh enjoys live music and concerts. He shared his excitement about attending his first concert at Red Rocks, a famous venue known for its stunning natural acoustics. “I made so many good friends. I went to a concert alone, and it was one of the best experiences ever,” Josh enthused, encouraging others to embrace solo adventures.

What’s Next? Towards the end of our conversation, Josh made it clear that his focus remains on fighting. He’s eager for another fight as soon as possible and is optimistic about the future.

Conclusion Josh Fremd embodies the spirit of perseverance and balance, seamlessly blending his career as a professional fighter with a love for life’s adventures. His appearance on The Mountain Side Podcast was not just an exploration of his professional journey but also a testament to his multifaceted interests and dedication to family. As he continues to chase his dreams in the UFC, we look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next. Stay tuned for more episodes and conversations that inspire and empower.
